Namesakes – Poland 2018

Piotr Wójcik’s project titled “Namesakes – Poland 2018” which was created on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence. The aim of the project is to present contemporary Poland, seen through individual fates of citizens. Their family memory, personal history, various places of residence and work are arranged in a mosaic depicting a diverse, actual Poland, having also its own problems. The protagonists are active people with ambitions in their local environments.

The key selection of project participants were the 10 most popular Polish names: Nowak, Kowalska / Kowalski, Wiśniewska / Wiśniewski, Wójcik, Kowalczyk, Kamińska / Kamiński, Lewandowska / Lewandowski, Dąbrowska / Dąbrowski, Zielińska / Zieliński, Szymańska / Szymański. They were portrayed in a journalistic way, in everyday surroundings resulting from their profession or passion. Portrait photographs are accompanied by pictures of landscapes, places where they live.

The project consists of photographs, texts – statements by heroes and video – landscapes.
